1977 Topps Gene Pentz

I wouldn't know Gene Pentz if he ran me over in his 1977 Chevy Impala (if he had one.) I looked him up and was surprised he had pitched in more than 100 games as a major leaguer over four season with 2 teams. But I didn't really care about that. Neither would you I'm sure.

Why I remember this cards and Mr. Pentz is that extremely cool satin jacket. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. This has to be one of the coolest cards from his porn 'stache to old school Astros uniform you can almost see under the extremely cool jacket.

Satin jackets were all the rage in baseball for decades. I still have my Milwaukee Brewers satin jacket from around 1991 or so. I'm sure most of you out there wish you still had yours. It kind of makes me wonder if Mr. Pentz saved his jacket from his 1977 Topps baseball card.

He would only appear in 10 games in 1977 for the Astros then never to appear in the major leagues again. He held on for three more years for the Pirates and Giants AAA teams but a promotion to The Show was not in his future.

It makes me wonder, did he ever get a cool Pirates or Giants satin jacket? Maybe in Spring Training?
